Description
1. Acts as a resource person when questions or problems arise. 2. Assists Manager/Director with the day to day operation of the Pharmacy Department, ensuring effective daily department operations, and participates in the staffing process to ensure adequate staffing. 3. Train and orients new employees, students, and residents on procedures and operations of the department. 4. Assists with the inventory of controlled substances. 5. Maintains a copy of all standing orders used by the pharmacy. 6. Assists Manager in reviewing if Technician Training Program is Board approved and up to date, if applicable. 7. Serves in the role of “Manager of Record” with the Board of Pharmacy. 8. Assists Manager with the operation of the Pharmacy in compliance with all federal, state, and local rules and regulations in the dispensing of all medications and in the maintenance of required records. 9. Must notify the Board in writing of their termination or resignation as a Pharmacy “Manager of Record” within ten days. 10. Assist Manager with inventory management. 11. Communicates clearly and effectively in person, in writing, or by phone. 12. Assists Manager in facilitating department staff meetings. 13. Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepares related forms necessary for the continued operation of the department. 14. Serves as resource for pharmacy information technology projects. 15. Provides immunizations at the pharmacy and at flu clinics. 16. Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures. 17. Reacts calmly and competently in emergency situations. 18. Maintains a thorough knowledge and complies with Hospital Policies and procedures pertaining to the job, including fire and disaster plans and infection control. 19. Maintains an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, patient care team and guests and ensures patient confidentiality at all times. 20. Participates in department and hospital education as well as other activities that promote professional growth and development, meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as required by law. 21. Serves as a mentor and coach to other employees, assisting them in their learning and professional development. 22. Works to resolve issues in all modalities as needed. 23. Reviews and interprets orders for patients. Inputs all prescriptions with appropriate elements including, but not limited to, patient profiles for the presence of incompatibilities, allergies, contraindications, warnings, side-effects, interactions, or inappropriate medication utilization. 24. Takes appropriate action to resolve medication issues. 25. Ensures adequate stock of medication and proper processing of all documents including invoices. 26. Communicates and interacts with customers, including patients, employees, and family members. 27. Stays current with pharmacy trends and medication therapies. 28. Provides mandatory patient counseling to facilitate appropriate drug therapy and education. Discusses all concerns regarding patient drug therapy with appropriate health care providers, utilizing all available resources and offering appropriate recommendations when indicated. 29. Focuses on the customer as a patient and prioritizes workload to ensure customer satisfaction. Anticipates and responds to patient needs and ensures patient understanding and compliance through proactive counseling. Addresses customer concerns and complaints related to service delivery, promptly and courteously both in person and on the telephone. 30. Refers unresolved issues or issues outside scope of responsibility to the Pharmacy Director or Manager as appropriate. 31. Provides consistent, professional supervision and direction to support personnel. 32. Maintains proficiency with all essential functions of Pharmacy computer system and Point of Sale. 33. Maintains a thorough understanding and ensures compliance of all regulatory and departmental policy and procedures. 34. Keeps current with third party billing practices and resolve issues. 35. Completes all cash and accounting reports as required. 36. Maintains a working knowledge of 340B regulations. 37. Maintains a working knowledge of all pharmacy equipment. 38. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers. 39. Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested. 40. Performs on call duty. · Ability to read, write, and communicate in English · Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Pharmacy · (Pharmacist) - Currently licensed as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts · (BLS) - Current Basic Life Support certification · Immunization Certification required · Two years (2) recent (within the past 3 years) full time experience (working an average of 30 hours or greater per week) as a Retail Pharmacist · Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required · Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work under pressure · Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills · Demonstrated ability to triage work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency · Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests and serves effectively as part of the department team in performing professional service to patients · (Preferred) - Medication Therapy Management Certification
