Job Title: Lead Cook – School Food Service Location: East Aurora, NY Hours: 6:30 am- 2:30 pm Hourly Rate- 20.00 per hour Job Summary: The Lead Cook is responsible for the daily preparation of nutritious and appealing meals in accordance with USDA, state, and local guidelines. This role ensures efficient kitchen operations, supervises kitchen staff as needed, and maintains high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and customer service in a school cafeteria setting. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and cook meals in accordance with planned menus and standardized recipes Lead and coordinate food preparation activities with other kitchen staff Monitor portion control, food quality, and presentation standards Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and sanitation procedures Maintain inventory, assist with ordering, and minimize food waste Train and support kitchen staff and substitutes as needed Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, equipment, and serving areas Assist with serving meals during meal periods as needed Perform opening and/or closing duties of the kitchen Communicate effectively with school staff, students, and the food service manager Requirements High school diploma or GED required Minimum 2 years of experience in institutional or school food service preferred ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days) Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards Ability to supervise and motivate team members Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with food preparation Must pass required background check/fingerprinting as required by NYS Education Department
