The Lead Cost Accountant will provide accounting and finance services in support of the organization’s business objectives. This role will directly manage and mentor a team of cost accountants, overseeing their workload, distribution and performance, provide expertise and ensure accurate and timely reporting in adherence with best practices. This lead will coordinate Oshkosh Aerotech cost functions to streamline processes, identify synergies and create a cohesive and efficient cost accounting team.
We are looking for someone who is highly innovative, creative and motivated to help create and mold a highly proficient cost accounting team, identify and drive process improvements across the units and lead the team through a new ERP implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Six (6) or more years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, or treasury.
  • Ability to travel 10%.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ability to manage large, complex datasets.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, with ability to present financial information to both finance and non-finance leaders.
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with focus on operational efficiency and long-term value creation.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with U.S. and international accounting regulations.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in aerospace and defense industry
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness: proven ability to find creative solutions and leverage available tools and information to overcome challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving skills: Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions. Must be able to lead root cause analysis and develop action plans as needed.
  • Proactive and results-oriented: Takes the initiative to address obstacles and drives tasks to completion, even in ambiguous situations.

Responsibilities
  • Drive monthly close process for cost function in assigned units, to include account reconciliation and review monthly financial reporting package in compliance with the Corporate Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) Manual.
  • Assist in the management and administration of business systems and procedures. Lead activities to validate the effectiveness of new procedures.
  • Identify gaps to strengthen internal controls and update Sarbanes-Oxley process documentation for changes affecting internal controls.
  • Develop customer-friendly systems, processes, and metrics; perform and supervise shared services tasks in accordance with standard work instructions. Monitor and track key operational benchmarks.
  • Champion the Oshkosh People First competencies to engage, develop, and connect team members.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement projects while leveraging Continuous Improvement Management System (CIMS) tools and concepts; drive advanced analysis in assigned business areas and develop innovative solutions that save time and resources.
  • Lead cost accounting processes, including standard cost development and updates, inventory valuation, and cost allocations; conduct variance analyses (material, labor, and overhead) and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support government contract reporting, including forward pricing rate development and incurred cost submissions.
  • Provide monthly reporting on COGS, margins, and manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Navigate ambiguity when working with incomplete information to develop a clear path forward where one doesn’t already exist.
  • Create a collaborative environment to facilitate the partnership with internal team and cross-functional departments to drive analysis in assigned areas and prepare monthly results for management. Interact with other departments on complex business issues that impact financial projections.
  • Provide cost accounting expertise for new product introductions and changes in production processes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on cost accounting for the Aerotech Finance team.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving financial visibility and cost control.
