Requirements Position Title: Lead Counselor Reports To: Camp Director Department: Camp Classification: Full Time, Non-Exempt, Seasonal Compensation: $17.00-$18.00/hour POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for providing a fun and safe environment for children to play, learn and grow. This position will be in charge of the supervision of a direct group of campers and will lean in to help other lead counselors and the camp director as needed. With support from camp leadership, the lead counselor will prepare the day-to-day activities for the campers and direct the assistant counselors as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for directing assistant counselors on lesson plans and activities Directly responsible for the supervision and safety of a group of campers Ability to lead and assist in varied group activities and daily routine Communication to director regarding issues and or concerns Arriving to work on time and prepared to start the day with a positive attitude toward each child, coworker and inquiring parents while wearing the designated camp shirt and ID lanyard at all times Other duties assigned by immediate supervisor QUALIFICATIONS: At least 18 years of age High School diploma or equivalent preferred Experience with lesson planning and working with kids ages 4-16 preferred Will need to provide three letters of recommendation Must be able to pass a Child Abuse & Neglect background check through DHHS Responsible, dependable, enthusiastic and able to communicate effectively Strong understanding of the YMCA mission and adhere to YMCA values Must be willing to work flexible hours from 6/15/2025 through 8/21/2025 Current Adult/Child CPR and First Aid Certification before 6/15/2025 (internal training provided) WORKING CONDITIONS: A required 30-hour training week will take place between 6/8/25 and 6/12/25 CPR/AED and First Aid required before 6/15/2025 CORE COMPETENCIES: Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s vales.
