At ING, we are not just building a future-fit credit risk organisation—we are launching a new chapter in how we govern and control risk across the bank. As Lead Credit Risk Processes and Control, you will be at the forefront of this transformation, establishing a brand-new team that will shape the way second-line credit risk processes and controls are designed, embedded, and monitored globally. This is a unique opportunity for a bold and forward-thinking leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is energized by the challenge of building from the ground up. You will be the linking pin between policy, execution, and assurance—translating strategic objectives into actionable control frameworks that are both compliant and scalable. Your role will be pivotal in strengthening ING’s risk governance, driving innovation, and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration across the 1st and 2nd lines of defence. If you’re ready to lead change, inspire others, and make a lasting impact on ING’s global credit risk landscape, this is your moment The Global Credit Risk department sets the credit risk strategy, ensuring that ING’s lending practices are in line with its risk tolerance and regulatory requirements and managing credit restructuring from a global and central point. Global Credit Risk plays a critical role via its credit risk policies, credit risk appetite setting and credit risk portfolio management in protecting the bank from losses due to defaults or economic downturns. The Team The Lead Credit Risk Processes and Control leads a newly created team of 6 FTEs and is based in the Netherlands. The role reports hierarchically to the Head of Credit Risk Frameworks and Control and is part of the Global Credit Risk Frameworks and Process leadership team in Global Credit Risk. It collaborates closely with stakeholders across the 1st and 2nd lines of defence, including local credit risk teams, COO (i.e. COO Risk), and senior management. Roles and responsibilities As Lead Credit Risk Processes and Control, you will lead a global team and be accountable for the following: Designing and implementing second-line credit risk processes and controls, translating policy obligations into a global control inventory and ensuring clear Specific Tasks and Responsibilities across the credit risk lifecycle. Developing and maintaining policy adherence testing procedures and effectiveness monitoring standards, acting as the point of contact for non-SOx credit risk controls and supporting both local and head office execution. Monitoring and challenging control adherence by creating structured oversight, identifying opportunities for standardisation, automation, and process improvement. Building and leading a high-performing team, providing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities while fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and continuous learning. Representing the function in regulatory and audit engagements (e.g. ECB, CAS, external auditors), managing high-priority issues and ensuring timely and effective remediation of findings. Specific Knowledge and Experience We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself. To thrive in this role, you bring: Deep expertise in credit risk across both 1st and 2nd lines of defence, with strong knowledge of banking products, risk processes, and regulatory frameworks. Proven leadership experience, including building high-performing teams, coaching talent, and fostering a collaborative and purpose-driven culture. Strategic thinking and operational excellence, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable controls and oversight mechanisms. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align across global functions, senior leadership, and supervisory bodies. A proactive, resilient mindset with a passion for innovation, process improvement, and making the bank safer and more secure – ready to make it happen. Ensure credit process is fit for purpose and adhering with credit regulation; continuously review and improve to enhance process efficiency and risk effectiveness. A strong ability to see the bigger picture—connecting dots across frameworks, processes, and assurance—and acting as the linking pin between the Credit Risk Frameworks & Policies and Credit Risk Quality Assurance teams.
