Reporting to the Manager, Data & Information, the Lead, Data and Information – Exploration Support will be a key member of the Global Data & Information group which provides guidance, support and oversight of core technical data management systems within Teck’s Exploration group. This role will lead Exploration’s global geoscientific database solutions, bringing value across the business. Critical functions of this role include maintaining a clear understanding of existing Exploration acQuire databases along with supporting continuous improvement and innovation opportunities. The role will also focus on enhancing Exploration’s operational readiness by supporting new implementations and identifying skill gaps and training opportunities for database managers. The position will be tasked with identifying methods of improvement of our data quality and opportunities to increase database completeness. The Lead, Data and Information will liaise with several internal and external stakeholders to ensure project needs are met and are aligned with Exploration best practice and corporate standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor in Earth Sciences or Geoscience and/or specialized certification in GIS. A post-graduate degree will be considered an asset
  • 6+ years of direct experience in a geological database administration role
  • Experience and skills in acQuire is required - specific acQuire training, AcQuire GIM suite practitioner certification would be preferred and AcQuire GIM suite professional would be an asset
  • Familiarity with AcQuire Arena and EnviroSys would be an asset
  • Proficient in the use of ESRI Desktop and Online suite of applications including ArcGIS PRO, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Portal
  • Specific software suite experience preferred for the role include:
  • Experience in data analytical and dashboarding programs including Power BI and ArcGIS Insights
  • Experience with FME (server and desktop) for spatial file conversion and automation tasks
  • Experience and skills in other relevant GIS and 3D software (ioGAS, Leapfrog, Oasis Montaj, GoCAD, Krux, Imago, MX Deposit)
  • Proficient with SQL and python scripting, strong statistical and data interpretation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within numerous diverse teams
  • Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning, prioritization, problem solving and execution skills
Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders to assist with Teck’s data management requirements across a range of projects
  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of efficient data management workflows and seek to continuously improve these through application of new acQuire functionality and tools
  • Support new acQuire implementations at Exploration’s operational sites and jurisdictional offices
  • Prioritize AcQuire database needs from a global perspective
  • Build import templates and automated workflows for new data streams
  • Work closely with the geochemistry team to develop or further develop global Teck geochemistry databases (Geocron, hyperspectral, soil, stream)
  • Support the development and implementation of database management best practice documentation and workflows to ensure seamless transition of validated data between key stakeholders
  • Completion of timely and consistent QAQC analysis and reports for active and historical projects and assist key stakeholders in taking corrective action
  • Conduct relevant training and knowledge sharing required to ensure effective uptake and implementation of database solutions within the group
  • Integration of exploration captured/discovered datasets (existing and new) using a variety of ETL tools and solutions
  • Provide support to the entire geoscientific information system of the group (associated databases, software platforms etc.) as required and directed by management
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and developments. Identify opportunities where new technologies can be trialed or deployed within Exploration
