ABOUT YOU

You are a good fit for the role of Lead, Data Science if you have the following:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, computer science, mathematics, physical/biological sciences, or GIS), relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience with data cleaning, analysis, programming, and reporting of results to internal or external stakeholders (education can substitute for some years of experience).
  • Experience working within Federal Law Enforcement agencies or as a federal government contractor.
  • Programming skills in one or more major programming languages (Python/R/Java).
  • Excellent understanding of ML, NLP, and statistical methodologies as well as a range of data science and data engineering concepts and practices (visualization, network analysis, entity resolution, development environments and practices).
  • Demonstrated personnel leadership (mentorship, support, coaching) or management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs into well-structured research/project plans.
  • Experience as a technical leader, coordinating and guiding the work of others.
  • Experience as a project leader, communicating with stakeholders, scoping and delivering project work.
  • U.S. Citizenship essential to comply with government contract/agency or department of Federal Government requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. national security clearance.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS:

  • On-prem or cloud-based “big data” analytics, techniques and tools experience (preferred, but not required).
  • Previous experience with data modeling and associated technologies (e.g. Neo4j) for graphs (preferred, but not required).

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Lead, Data Science, you will provide personnel, technical, and project leadership within the Federal Law Enforcement territory to a team that drives, identifies, evaluates, designs and implements statistical analyses of gathered open source, proprietary, and customer data to create analytic metrics and tools to support TRSS analysts, customers and existing product offerings. The data science organization is matrixed in that your team will serve a range of different customers and possess a range of different skill sets that apply to individual projects and broader company innovation and engineering mandates. Successful candidates will have demonstrated mentorship and guidance experience in data science, research and development, and other associated interdisciplinary teams.
You will collaborate with customers and internal resources to assist in gathering requirements, contributing to Statements of Work (SOWs) for new sales or POCs, and executing design post sale while getting deeply involved into the delivery, monitoring, and reporting of the proposed solutions and data science team performance. The role will interface with the customer and provide continuity of technical and data-exploration expertise to ensure we are delivering a workable solution that meets the customer requirements and technical capabilities. The position requires a proactive, mission-oriented person who strives to produce the best possible work for the customer.

As a Lead, Data Scientist, you will also contribute to a variety of areas including:

  • Individual contribution and innovation relative to your expertise, interest, and organizational need.
  • Participate in team-wide management initiatives around reporting, shared environment development, engineering process initiatives, data cataloging and metadata management, and analysis and implementation of ethical practices in data science.
  • Development of metrics and prototypes that can be used to drive business decisions.
  • Providing thought-leadership and dependable execution on diverse projects.
  • Identification of emergent trends and opportunities for future client growth and development.
  • Researching and identifying artificial intelligence (AI) methods – including but not limited to machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), GIS, computer vision and image process, and graph construction and analysis.
  • Identification of new applications of AI in the context of Thomson Reuters and TRSS content sets.
  • Exploring existing data for insights and recommend additional sources of data for improvement.
