JOB DESCRIPTION – LEAD DENTAL NURSE

We have a great opportunity for a Lead Dental Nurse to join our established practice in Waterford. A modern, established practice with an existing friendly, experienced team in place.
Ideally an immediate start. This role is full time, Monday to Friday. You Must have 2+ year’s Dental Nursing experience and a recognised Dental Nursing qualification is an advantage. You will receive initial Lead Nurse training and handover from our supportive team.
The ideal candidate must have experience in dental nurse/ordering and leadership with a clinical team previously.

CAPABILITIES

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Understanding of basic dental terminology & ability to chart dental records.
  • Knowledge of basic dental materials and the use of these materials in each specific area of dentistry.
  • Knowledge of all relevant dental instruments as covered in the Dental Nursing curriculum. This includes the basics in Oral surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Orthodontics and Restorative dentistry.
  • Understanding and implementation of the sterile environment and techniques.
  • Competent Chairside assistance skills.
Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Lead Dental Nurse will have overall responsibility for the efficient management of the clinical environment in the dental practice. The Lead Dental Nurse will take ownership of ensuring the clinical team are following all policies and procedures in the practice as set out by Dental Care Ireland and other regulatory bodies, including the Dental Council of Ireland.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsibility for ordering consumables and monitoring stock levels to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
  • Responsibility for the maintenance, service and repair of clinical equipment.
  • Implementing and monitoring the completion of the start and end of day surgery checklists.
  • Ensuring the clinical team are maintaining high standards of cross-infection control, adhering to Dental Care Ireland policies and procedures on cross-infection, sterilisation, clinical & amalgam waste management, radiation, sharps injury, etc.
  • Responsibility for ensuring clinical tests and audits are completed as required on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Working with the practice manager in training new and existing staff on maintaining equipment and cross-infection control.
  • Liaising with the dental associates in the practice on issues relating to cross-infection, staff training, stock, equipment etc.
  • Attending training days required of the Lead Nurse by Dental Care Ireland.
  • Completing bi-annual stocktakes.
