Job Description: Lead Electrician

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership
  • Perform and oversee installations and servicing of residential and commercial electrical systems, including:
  • Power & lighting
  • Low voltage HVAC controls
  • Communications, access, and data systems
  • Alternative energy systems (where applicable)
  • Interpret and apply the Canadian Electrical Code on all projects and mentor junior staff on code compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Division Manager to complete system design layouts and field-engineered solutions as required.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures and best practices for the division.
  • Record accurate red-line drawings and submit relevant documentation for as-builts.
  • Project Execution & Site Management
  • Act as the primary field lead for electrical scopes on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with the Division Manager on job kickoff, scheduling, scope clarification, and resourcing.
  • Understand project requirements, read technical drawings, and ensure job site readiness and cleanliness.
  • Support material planning and delivery coordination; identify and communicate material needs in advance.
  • Monitor and communicate progress to the Division Manager, proactively flagging delays, risks, or change orders.
  • Team Culture & Mentorship
  • Lead apprentices by modeling consistent performance, clean workmanship, and safe practices.
  • Provide real-time coaching and participate in informal evaluations of junior staff in collaboration with the Division Manager.
  • Maintain a positive site culture by avoiding distractions and resolving conflicts respectfully.
  • Client and Trade Interaction
  • Represent Whyte Mechanical with professionalism in all interactions with clients, consultants, inspectors, and other trades.
  • Identify new business opportunities on-site and communicate these to the Division Manager or office team.
  • Ensure changes to project scope or schedule are communicated promptly and clearly to leadership.

  • Crew Productivity & Efficiency

Target: Labour Efficiency Score

Measured By: QBO reporting from the CFO.

  • Install Quality & Deficiency Rate

Target: <2% rework or deficiencies within 30 days of turnover

  • 90%+ first-pass inspection rate with AHJ

Measured By: Deficiency logs and AHJ inspection reports.

  • Budget Adherence & Job Readiness

Target: 95%+ tasks completed on time and within material budget

  • Site prep and materials confirmed before start

Measured By: OS Job tracking, material POs, and readiness checklists.

  • Technician Development & Mentorship

Target: Weekly coaching and documented training for all Journeyman Electricians
Quarterly feedback shared with division leads
Measured By: Coaching notes in OneDrive and participation logs in Jobber.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to: Division Manager(s)
  • Direct Reports: Assigned field crew (Journeymen & Apprentices)

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, field-based throughout the Greater Vancouver Area
  • Occasional flexibility required for early site start-ups or project-critical timelines
  • Provided with company tools and equipment needed for task execution
  • Will be required to support multiple job sites simultaneously

Remuneration:

  • Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000 annually (depending on trade, experience, and certifications)
  • 3 weeks paid vacation

  • Vehicle allowance or company vehicle provided, with fuel card
  • Opportunity to participate in company profit-sharing based on team performance KPIs

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Construction Electrician Certification required
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive electrical installation experience, including team leadership or mentoring
  • Familiar with residential and commercial installations especially pertaining to HVAC systems
  • Proficient in system layout, installation best practices, and the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Ability to read blueprints, coordinate effectively with other trades, and manage time-sensitive installs
  • Ability to represent the company with professionalism and care on client-facing sites
