SUMMARY:

DMC is currently looking for a Lead Engineer, Structural to join our team on a permanent basis, based in our Vaughan, Ontario location. This position the first level of direct and sustained supervision of other professional engineers or the first level of full specialization. Requires application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting assignments having scope for independent accomplishment and co-ordination of difficult and responsible tasks. As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is mandatory with seven (7) to ten (10) years of related experience
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Mine Engineering or related discipline is an asset.
  • Advanced understanding of structural codes, standards, principles, theories, practices, and applications in use of modern engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability in design and analysis of structural systems including steelwork and reinforce concrete to Canadian design codes.
  • Intimate knowledge of FEA structural design and analysis software, such as RISA 3D and Robot
  • Intimate knowledge of BIM software such as Revit & Navisworks is an asset.3D environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Team player with a strong inclination towards working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers.
  • Experience in the mining industry is an asset, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, approves and co-ordinates work schedules to ensure that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
  • Develops and recommends improvements in design standards to lower costs, improve work quality and facilitate maintenance. Investigates, advises and solves unusual design and field engineering problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in novel ways.
  • Requires effective working relationships with colleagues, officials and associates for the purpose of discussing design problems, explaining design features and specifications and other project control criteria.
  • Establishes and maintains client contacts to seek or provide technical information related to the immediate project.
  • Analyses problems, organizes investigations and determines specific design criteria.
  • Requires initiative and judgement to recognize the implications of experimental results on other problems and to devise new approaches.
  • Discusses projects and problems with senior specialists and colleagues to determine relative priorities and implications on work of others.
  • Makes recommendations for increased resources and special equipment.
  • Makes commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources and staff required to meet objectives.
  • Is required to have knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering.
  • Recommendations are reviewed for soundness of judgement but are usually accepted as technically accurate and feasible.
  • Exercises initiative in adapting and applying procedures to address unusual situations and to resolve issues.
  • Work is assigned in terms of objectives, relative priorities and critical areas that impact on the work of other units.
  • Assigns and outlines work, advises on technical problems and reviews work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
