Description
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Engineering Geologist for our Portland, OR office! This Opportunity Be involved in projects with our Geotechnical & Tunneling Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. Your Impact Plan and manage advanced investigation programs including geologic mapping, geophysical surveys, subsurface drilling, and instrumentation programs. Perform and oversee interpretation of subsurface data, stratigraphy, geomorphology, structural geology, groundwater conditions, and geologic hazards. Lead and perform engineering geology and geotechnical engineering analysis and design for infrastructure projects around the country and locally, including work for tunnels, bridge foundations, highways, slopes and embankments. Lead and perform landslide and rockfall hazard assessments and mitigation designs. Develop/review geotechnical memoranda, data reports, and design reports. Develop/review plans, specifications, cost estimates, and other contract documents. Manage projects and task orders, including leading larger-scale geotechnical engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees. Apply high-level engineering geology/geotechnical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation. Provide support during construction. Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development. Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines, other engineers, planners, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities. Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs. Develop and coordinate geotechnical work in Pacific Northwest and other areas of the US. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related discipline(Geology). 7-10+ years of relevant experience in engineering geology Extensive experience in design and construction of highway, bridge, slopes, and/or underground projects Extensive experience in developing Geotechnical Reports and Contract Documents Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization. Work independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. Ability and willingness to travel and perform field work occasionally Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies Preferred Qualifications CEG registration in Oregon, Washington, or California Master’s Degree in Geology Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus. Familiarity with GIS, 3D geologic modeling tools, and digital field data collection systems.
