Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead for Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) to oversee and coordinate engineering support throughout the construction phase of a major transit infrastructure project involving tunnel sections and underground stations. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists to ensure technical compliance, support issue resolution, and provide oversight on design intent, constructability, and change management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, Structural, Geotechnical, or related Engineering field +10 years of related experience;

STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng. or equivalent) license required.
  • Minimum 15 years of engineering experience, with at least 10 years on major transit or infrastructure projects involving tunnels and underground stations.
  • Urban underground construction
  • Tunnel boring machines (TBM) and mined tunnels
  • Deep excavation and underpinning
  • Multi-level underground stations
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and constructability for complex transit environments.
  • Proven experience leading engineering support during construction on design-build, progressive design-build, or P3 delivery models in complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Strong understanding of tunneling methods (e.g., TBM, SEM/NATM), deep excavation, underpinning, and cut-and-cover station construction.
  • Experience with design review, construction support, and coordination between design and construction teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement; strong communication and team leadership skills.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the ESDC team providing engineering support across tunneling, underground stations, and associated systems during construction.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical matters between the design team, construction teams, and client representatives.
  • Provide timely technical responses to RFIs, NCRs, Field Change Requests, and other construction-related queries.
  • Ensure design intent is maintained during construction, supporting interpretation of design documents and resolving conflicts.
  • Coordinate with construction teams to assess constructability, provide clarification, and facilitate design changes or optimizations.
  • Oversee technical reviews of contractor submittals, shop drawings, and temporary works designs for compliance with contract documents.
  • Lead interface management between tunnel and station packages and other project disciplines (track, MEP, structural, geotechnical, systems, etc.) as it relates to construction activities.
  • Support the management of design changes, assess their impacts, and collaborate with commercial teams for cost/time implications as it relates to RFI’s, NCRs and Field change requests.
  • Attend construction meetings and site inspections to identify technical risks and proactively resolve engineering challenges.
  • Collaborate with safety, quality, and environmental teams to ensure technical compliance with regulatory and client standards.
  • Contribute to claims and disputes support through engineering assessments and technical documentation as required.
