The WBG Chief Risk Officer (CRO) Vice Presidency is the core unit responsible for Group-wide institutional risk oversight, including establishment and monitoring adherence to risk policies and guidelines and risk assessment and reporting to the Board and executive management. Its mission is to enable and support the WBG to achieve its goals in a financially sustainable manner. The VPU assists management with identifying and managing Group-wide cross-cutting risks, enhancing risk response decisions, reducing financial and operational surprises and losses, seizing opportunities and improving deployment of capital. The WBG CRO Vice Presidency includes the IBRD/IDA, IFC, and MIGA risk teams and covers a wide range of financial and non-financial risks. To improve accountability and credibility, the WBG has created an independent second line of environmental and social (E&S) risk oversight within its CRO. While operational teams at the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA design and deliver projects per E&S policies, this new E&S Risk Department, led by the WBG Global Director for Environment and Social Risk, monitors and evaluates E&S performance. The department is hiring a Lead Environmental & Social Standards Specialist to establish and lead its E&S Risk Analytics and Reporting unit. Duties and Accountabilities: Leadership and Strategy - Lead the Environmental and Social Risk Analytics and Reporting Unit, including managing a team of E&S specialists and data analysts/scientists. - Establish, implement and maintain an E&S data governance framework for WBG building upon existing data management policies and procedures - Develop the E&S Risk Analytics and Reporting framework building upon the existing portfolio databases and internal tools - Oversee the integration and enhancements of current information management and reporting protocols, databases, dashboards and other software tools - Improve, and apply innovative approaches to deploy AI tools for enhanced E&S Risk Analytics and Reporting. E&S Risk Data Collection and Management - Develop and maintain systems for the collection, storage, and management of E&S risk data from project teams, country offices, and external sources. - Coordinate and liaise with the regional operational teams, E&S risk and accountability teams and other internal stakeholders to ensure the most relevant information and data is captured - Ensure data quality, consistency, and security in line with WBG data governance policies. - Integrate data from multiple sources, including the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), Implementation Status and Results Reports (ISRs), IFC 360 and other relevant platforms E&S Risk Analytics - Enhance the current suite of E&S KPIs and metrics for WBG projects to align with the WBG Enterprise Risk Management taxonomy - Integrate, enhance and maintain tools, models, and methodologies for assessing and analyzing operational E&S risks from WBG project operations, including appropriate use of AI - Building upon existing project level data and information sources, integrate and maintain a dashboard of the WBG projects - Analyzing E&S data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities - Leveraging the E&S risk analytics, monitor key risks indicator to timely alert decision makers of potential issues and inform mitigation strategies. Portfolio E&S Risk Reporting - Oversee and prepare the integrated risk report for the senior management of WBG - Oversee the preparation of regular E&S risk analytics reports (quarterly, annual, ad hoc) for management and the Board, portfolio dashboards and risk heatmaps with accurate up-to-date information and user-friendly creative data visualizations in line with the management reporting requirements, covering relevant E&S KPIs and metrics - Contribute to quarterly portfolio reviews by senior management, quarterly risk reporting to the Board and WBG annual reports - Provide portfolio intelligence and reports as requested by WBG senior management, operational teams and other internal stakeholders, including the Board from time to time - Portfolio Intelligence and Knowledge Dissemination - Using internal portfolio E&S risk related data, develop special thematic reports, issue papers and other information assets - Coordinate with and contribute to the “Knowledge Bank” with E&S related data, information and knowledge. Selection Criteria • Strategic vision and ability to align the unit’s work with WBG priorities. • Advanced degree in relevant discipline (e.g. environmental management, science, social sciences, engineering, data science or other related discipline) • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience including at least 5 years in WBG’s E&S, investment and/or advisory work, • Advanced knowledge of WBG Risk Management practices, WBG ESF and/or the IFC’s Sustainability Framework and its implementation • Strong analytical skills including familiarity with available data analytics tools, demonstrated expertise in E&S risk analytics, including portfolio and project-level risk E&S assessment. • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written with the ability to convey complex E&S risk analytics to diverse audiences • Familiarity with E&S risk reporting, information management, UX/UI tools, and related IT tools will be a plus • Compliance with World Bank Group selection criteria, such as effective team leadership, cross-functional influence, openness to innovation, and commitment to developing emerging talent **This internal requisition is open to WBG and IMF staff only (including short-term and extended term consultants/ temporaries).
