JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Hand to oversee EVENING SHIFT (3:30 PM to Midnight) operations within our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and experience in a factory setting, ensuring that assembly line processes run smoothly and efficiently. As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for guiding team members, maintaining quality standards, and optimizing production workflows.

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITY, EXPERIENCE

  • Preference will be given to applicants with Fin Press Setup Experience
  • Additional skills to be learned on the job through intense cross-training program: candidate will cycle through all job positions within the department for training and must display competency skills.
  • Have management skills
  • Have technical/mechanical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, able to speak, write and read in English
  • Able to perform all tasks with all departments including lifting, crane use and forktruck
  • Able to lift 25 kgs
  • Able to stand and walk throughout the shift
  • Punctual, reliable and responsible
  • Can work well in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • First Aid trained and CPR or must obtain certification within 3 months.
  • Basic computer skills including Excel and Word and email.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Lead Hand plays an important leadership role. He/she works in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is expected to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously, and successfully function in a cross-functional manufacturing environment.
He/she gives direction, assists in the training of new employees, directly supports the Department Foreman, and remains a member of the bargaining unit.

DUTIES

  • Oversees and directs the daily work in support of the Foreman.
  • Ensure all equipment is operating properly, reports any issues to the foreman.
  • Ensures that all employees within the Department are working without disruption.
  • Where needed, performs general labour tasks on the production line.
  • Training teammates or new hires in new positions within the department.
