Next Door at Astor Place is a true culinary adventure located inside the Wegmans store in the heart of the East Village. Inspired by the building’s art deco roots, our space is both welcoming and elevated- offering guests an immersive, entertaining experience and next-level hospitality from every seat in the house.
As a Lead Host, you’ll be the first point of contact for our guests, welcoming them with warmth and professionalism while setting the tone for an exceptional and memorable dining experience. You will assist in coordinating reservations and seating, all while creating a comfortable and enjoyable wait for guests. Additionally, you will lead a group of hosts and provide resources for their career development.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop a team of employees, engage in meaningful conversations, build trusted relationships and provide the resources, feedback, and development opportunities they need to be successful
  • Manage host team operations, including ordering supplies, scheduling, and payroll
  • Maintain consistent two-way communication with team members and management
  • Ensure restaurant areas are clean, organized and well-stocked with all necessary supplies, and that events take place efficiently and effectively
  • Assist with catering and takeout orders, manage coat and personal item check, and resolve concerns with care and discretion to ensure a positive experience
  • Own and utilize OpenTable to enhance guest experience and service by managing floor plans, table assignments, and guest seating
  • Generate reports to track guest volume, turn times, and analyze data to improve guest experience and support operational efficiency
  • Respond promptly to customer calls and emails regarding reservations, general inquiries, and maintaining up-to-date guest profiles with preferences, allergies and visit history
  • Maintain the appearance and accuracy of menus; ensure they are up-to-date and in excellent condition
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including preparation of the host stand, bathroom maintenance and floral arrangements
  • Support leadership with special event operations, and aiding with the foodborne illness reporting process as needed
