As a Lead Engineer – HVDC Control Systems, you will enable the Energy Transition through the development of HVDC converter models and advanced controls. You will lead and contribute to R&D programs aligned with GE Vernova’s energy businesses such as Grid Solutions, Power Conversion and Storage, Wind and Power including Gas Power, Nuclear and Hydro as well as with U.S. Government Agencies such as the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense. The technologies developed under these programs will be matured and transitioned into products to drive breakthrough impact for our company, our customers, and our society. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctorate degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in design, development and validation of power converters

OR

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in design, development and validation of power converters.
  • 2 to 4 years experience of advanced controllers, optimization, estimation, or detection algorithms.
  • 2 to 5 years experience in algorithm development and software implementation for complex physical systems (e.g., HVDC converter, converters integrating renewable resources into the AC transmission grid, converter in industrial applications, transportation systems, etc s).
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies

Responsibilities

As a Lead HVDC Engineer - Control Systems, you will:

  • Lead diverse teams as well contribute individually at a senior level in the development and application of advanced technology solutions to GE Vernova products and services using modeling, advanced controls.
  • Validate performance of developed solutions through both real-time and offline simulations and application on target systems.
  • Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications.
  • Ensure that solutions adopted are both technically appropriate and that GE Vernova has freedom to utilize these solutions.
  • Transfer technology to engineering teams in GE Vernova to be included in next generation products and services.
  • Stay current with advances in system technologies to seek out new ideas and applications.
  • Work in a team environment with colleagues across GE Vernova including the Advanced Research Center and partners from industry, academia, and government agencies.
