An exciting opportunity has become available for a Lead Independent Travel Training Officer to oversee Bristol City Council’s forthcoming Independent Travel Training offer. This new offer will sit within the Home to School Travel (HTST) Team, which aims to support children and young people to travel to school/college in the most independent and inclusive way possible, in line with the Council’s statutory duties.
The Independent Travel Training programme will support children and young people in education to build the confidence and skills to enable them to be better prepared for the transition into further education and/or employment.
You will be the Lead Officer responsible for co-ordinating Bristol City Council’s Independent Travel Training programme, managing a small team of Independent Travel Trainers, as well as delivering Independent Travel Training yourself.
The training you will provide will enable young people to access their point of education independently by use of public transport and support them to develop vital ‘life skills’, such as social interaction and problem solving, that will be essential for independent travel beyond education and in to adulthood.
You will initially work with the Home to School Travel Team Manager to launch this new offer, establishing processes, good practice, and building relationships with schools and colleges as well as parent/carers. Once established, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Independent Travel Training offer.
