recreation programming, outreach and education, Variety promotes inclusion and healthy living through
adapted physical activity.

JOB SUMMARY:

As part of a team of three Lead Instructors, the incumbent is responsible for delivering safe and interactive
activities and classes for young adults with developmental disabilities. The goal is to support participants in
developing life skills, increasing independence, building self-esteem, monitoring and documenting their
progress within the program. The incumbent will also be responsible for participating in the development,
assessment and implementation of the current programming structure and curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Education, Child and Youth Care is considered a strong

asset.

  • Experience in working with several participants with varying degrees of special needs as definite

asset.

  • Experience in adapted physical education and instruction.
  • Ability to create effective methods to track participant development.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of integrated programming.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certifications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Highly dependable and reliable.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule with core hours of work being Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00

pm.

Responsibilities
  • Working collaboratively as part of the program delivery team.
  • Assisting in the development, testing and assessment and implementation of changes to the current

programming structure, curriculum and delivery method.

  • Providing individualized goal setting for each client while promoting independence.
  • Remaining up to date with current trends in adaptive programming.
  • Implementing lesson plan modifications and enhancements as required.
  • Providing a stimulating learning environment.
  • Fostering supportive interaction amongst participants.
  • Monitoring the safety of participants at all times.
  • Participating in offsite excursions as required.
  • Attending and participating in client’s parent/guardian meetings.
  • Participating in the intake process for program candidates including interviewing the applicants and

going through the intake package with the applicant and their guardians.

  • Developing methods to assess participant’s progress with the class, on an independent and group

basis.

  • Providing support and guidance to program volunteers and students.
  • Performing duties with the best interest of the participants in mind at all times.
  • Ensuring work and activities are conducted within established Variety policies, procedures and

protocols.

  • Working effectively as a contributing member of the Day Program team, providing support where

needed and requesting support when required.

  • Attending departmental meetings as required.
  • Keeping up to date on current integrated programming methods.
  • Handling other duties as assigned.
