ABOUT MAKERSPACECT:

MakerspaceCT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing innovation, workforce development, and hands-on education through access to tools, technology, and training. Located in the historic G. Fox Building in downtown Hartford, MakerspaceCT operates the largest makerspace in Connecticut and serves as a hub for creators, educators, and learners of all ages. Since opening in 2019, we have empowered thousands of individuals through our youth programs, adult training, and community initiatives, helping to bridge the gap between education and real-world application in STEM and advanced manufacturing fields.

POSITION SUMMARY:

MakerspaceCT is seeking a dynamic and passionate Instructor of Advanced Technologies to lead instruction in our flagship youth programs. This role focuses on project-based learning in areas such as:

  • Laser Cutting & Digital Fabrication
  • Robotics
  • Coding (e.g., Python, Arduino, block-based environments)
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Video Game Design
  • 3D Printing
  • CAD Modeling (e.g., OnShape, Solidworks, Tinkercad)

The instructor will teach during the school year and summer, delivering engaging, hands-on programming for middle and high school students. This is a unique opportunity to teach cutting-edge technologies in a creative, collaborative environment and to make a lasting impact on youth in Hartford and beyond. Through our partnerships with manufacturers in the Hartford area, instructors also gain valuable industry insight and opportunities to connect students with real-world applications and career pathways.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, Education, STEM fields)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching in a classroom or group instruction setting
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: laser cutting, 3D printing, CAD, robotics, game design, coding, or AI
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • A passion for teaching and mentoring youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, project-based learning environment
  • Willingness to collaborate and contribute to a small, mission-driven team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a makerspace, fab lab, or similar hands-on environment
  • Knowledge of curriculum development for informal or out-of-school-time programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high-quality, hands-on instruction in advanced technologies to students ages 10–18
  • Deliver high-quality, hands-on instruction in advanced technologies to adult members and customers
  • Develop lesson plans and curriculum that are engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with program goals
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment in the makerspace
  • Collaborate with the education team to refine and improve program offerings
  • Support the setup, operation, and maintenance of relevant equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics kits)
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to students
  • Participate in occasional outreach events and showcases of student work
