About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 11 About the Role: The Team: The Assistant General Counsel will be a member of the S&P Global Corporate Data Privacy, Protection and Information Governance Team, which is comprised of attorneys and compliance professionals who provide global support to S&P divisions and functions. This position will report directly to the Assistant General Counsel, Data Privacy, who is based in the United States. The Impact: You will work closely with the Assistant General Counsel and other members of the Data Privacy, Protection and Information Governance Team to prepare legal advice, conduct regulatory research and analysis, and support S&P Global’s cyber incident response team, data incident response team and procurement and vendor contracting processes. You will be able to use discretion and independent judgement in the application of privacy and data protection laws and regulations, draft contracts, and respond to contractual questions. You will have strong communication and project management skills. This role will give you scope to act autonomously within a globally diverse legal team. You will assist in providing advice and counsel involving legal and regulatory issues of varying levels of complexity. Being part of our dynamic global team requires flexibility in working hours. Ideally, you will be located in Mexico or South America. Responsibilities: Review and negotiate data protection addendums and similar contractual terms. Maintain and draft contract template language related to data privacy, data protection, and information governance. Work with various stakeholders across the company to ensure controls are compliant with applicable law. Interact with, and resolve, data protection legal issues across all business functions, affiliates, subsidiaries, and acquisitions. Assisting in the review of training materials relating to data protection matters. Providing support for the resolution of day-to-day matters, including legal research. Identifying problems and support solutions-based practices by using existing precedents or procedures, including creating legal gap analysis of new data protection laws and regulations. Contributing to the achievement of the Legal Department’s objectives. Provide legal advice on cyber and data incident management. What We’re Looking For: Basic Required Qualifications: Qualified lawyer with legal degree and license to practice law. Fluent in English is required 5+ years of experience dealing with data protection and privacy. Expertise in data privacy laws, information governance, and data localization. Ability to handle high volume workflow. Professional, highly organized and detail-oriented. Excellent analytical and written skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and teamwork skills. Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others from outside the Legal Department. The highest level of discretion, sensitivity, and integrity in handling confidential information. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
