Description Francis Parker School seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and passionate individual to be responsible for all aspects of pool safety as well as provide basic swim instruction to students. Requirements Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director, Aquatics and Operations, the Lead Lifeguard is generally responsible for hiring, training, and supervising the lifeguards and related water safety staff. Priority duties include establishing standard and preventative safety measures; working with the PE teachers, curriculum coordinators, and administrators of all levels on JK-12 swim programs; swimming programs during the summer and other school break periods. This role certifies or arranges for the certification courses of school staff as necessary for various aquatic certifications. Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Supervise activities at the aquatics facility and support aquatics safety needs during field trips at off campus sites (e.g. beaches or non-Parker pools) to ensure that policies, guidelines and safety procedures are followed. Lifeguard supervision includes: scheduling; determination of need and assigning lifeguards. Provide in-service training for lifeguard staff. Instruct or assist classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed Provide safety awareness and training; staff education of Parker’s water-related activities procedures. Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable; assist in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment; assist with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents; add chemicals to pool water as directed. Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities, at the beach/ocean, or other off-site natural pools, streams, or rivers to determine any potential dangers or hazards, then adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of all. Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety. Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger; enforce pool regulations and water safety policies. Evaluate conditions for safety and initiate the aquatics emergency action plan as required. Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in distress or danger of drowning; administer CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary. Work with State and County agencies to ensure compliance with local governances; assuring compliance of all water-related activities policies and procedures. Responsible for other duties as assigned based on campus needs. Qualifications: Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or ability to obtain Certificate within the first six months of employment; Certified Pool Operator Certificate or ability to obtain Certificate within the first six months of employment; Water Safety Instructor or Equivalent Experience Certified Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, or equivalent; American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent; American Red Cross Standard First Aid, or equivalent; First responder certification is preferred; Ocean lifeguarding/rescue experience is preferred; Experience teaching school-aged children; Experience in a school-setting; Ability to employ appropriate lifesaving techniques and rescue methods appropriate for the site and conditions that apply; Knowledge and ability to render first aid as applied to accidents in water and surrounding areas; Effectively enforce pool rules, understanding of pool rules and regulations governing swimming pool operation; Knowledge of proper swimming techniques and ability to teach all age levels; Experience hiring and managing lifeguards; Effective interpersonal and communication skills to supervise and communicate with a diverse population to acquire compliance on rules and regulations; Ability to work flexible hours. Responsibilities

The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring pool safety and providing swim instruction to students. This includes supervising lifeguards, establishing safety measures, and coordinating swim programs.
