Description Position Summary While working as a Lead Mailing Operator, you will be tasked with fulfilling orders and performing tasks related to preparing customer orders for delivery via USPS. You will work on packing, labeling, stamping, and bundling in preparation for delivery. Additionally, you will also use hands or mail handling machines to stamp, open, sort, and route mail; and address, seal, stamp, fold, stuff, and affix postage to outgoing packages. Furthermore, the Lead Mailing Operator is responsible for setting up and operating all inserters, inkjet printers, and mailing devices according to specification on the job ticket as well as maintaining quality standards of jobs produced by these machines. In this working leadership role, the Lead Mailing Operator will drive the schedule of work for the team and assist in troubleshooting on complex jobs and issues. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Regular, reliable and punctual attendance Drive the scheduled work for department operators, ensuring a full and productive day’s work Partner with the Production Director to assess workload and operator competency Act as the first line of defense in troubleshooting operator issues Participate in the working interview process for prospective production candidates Operate mail processing machines such as postage meters, folder-inserters, scanners, and labeling equipment and their corresponding software Oversee inkjet quality by inspecting bar codes and address format and making sure that they meet postal regulations Sort and package mail according to USPS requirements Package envelopes, label cartons, and stamp or label mailing information on the cartons Prepare envelopes with items such as shipping address, return address, label, or stamp(s) Verify that items are addressed correctly, marked with the proper postage, and in suitable condition for processing Review production quality and initiate corrective action on poor jobs Determine way mail is to be sent, and prepare it for delivery to mail facilities Perform all minor maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaning of machinery as needed Ensure accuracy of work being performed to produce the highest quality product for the client Troubleshoot and clear any jams or problems in mailing equipment Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates to receive or aid Communicate with logistics as to when jobs are ready for delivery to the post office Enter information into the computer to keep track of jobs and assignments Nonessential Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate with other members and assist them where needed Work on job assignments in other departments as needed Requirements Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Experience with BlueCrest and/or Quadient inserters is helpful. Additionally, reaching with hands and arms to manipulate objects are regularly required. Talking and listening are crucial as well. The associate is regularly required to walk, and bend over; and must occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the associate is required to climb or balance on a step ladder or similar item to reach boxes or insert paper and should take appropriate safety precautions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
