JOB DESCRIPTION: LEAD MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST JOB TITLE Lead Maintenance Specialist PROGRAM Refugio Unaccompanied Children Shelter REPORTS TO Program Director SALARY $59,570.00 LOCATION San Benito, Texas JOB TYPE Full-Time WORK SCHEDULE Up to 6 Days per Week, 40 Hours per week, 12 Months per year General Description The Maintenance Lead is responsible for overseeing and performing maintenance operations at the shelter program to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for staff and children in care. This role includes supervising maintenance staff, coordinating repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, particularly those relevant to ORR and State Licensing standards. ABOUT YOU The ideal candidate for our program is a self-motivated and dedicated person who is excited and passionate about helping children, staff, and external stakeholders. You are also a personable, energetic, and empathetic person who can manage multiple projects in a prioritized manner to meet internal Urban Strategies goals. Minimum Qualifications * High school diploma or GED * 3 years of formal maintenance work experience and 1 year in a supervisory role * Able to supervise other employees * Strong knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices. * Able to work with plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems, basic construction knowledge and skills. * Cleared background check from appropriate entity. * Bilingual in (English/Spanish) * Cleared drug test results. * Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire. * Clean child abuse and neglect or child protective services check (CAN) * Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations (Emergency Task Order or Cooperative Agreement) * Able to evacuate at short notice to accompany residents possibly to a different city for several days at a time. * Able to work weekends, holidays and shift work as needed. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to ascend/descend stairs * Ability to lift to 50 lbs. * Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of children’s activities * Ability to stand; particularly for sustained periods of time, bend and stoop. * Able to drive a 12-15 passenger van * Able to receive and understand detailed information through oral communication * Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, heat and winds) * Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING * Oversee and coordinate daily activities of the maintenance staff * Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards * Perform and oversee maintenance repairs in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and general building systems. * Conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance needs. * Ensure all systems and equipment are functioning properly and safely. * Ensure the facility complies with OSHA regulations, local building codes and ORR shelter standards. * Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs and maintenance schedules. * Respond promptly to emergency maintenance issues. * Work closely with shelter leadership to support operational needs. * Assist in preparing the facility for audits and inspections. * Support shelter events and activities with set-up and breakdown logistics. * Maintains program facility in a safe, functional and presentable manner. * Responds to all work orders in a timely manner. * Requests maintenance supplies and equipment as needed from maintenance supervisor or designee. * Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created. * Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, and other grounds features. * ABLE TO REACT TO CHANGE PRODUCTIVELY AND HANDLE OTHER ESSENTIAL TASKS AS ASSIGNED ABOUT URBAN STRATEGIES Urban Strategies exist to equip, resource and connect faith- and community-based organizations so that all children and families can reach their full potential.
