The (Lead) Throughput Registered Nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The (Lead) Throughput Registered Nurse accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge skills, and collaborates with providers to achieve quality patient care outcomes. Uses critical thinking nursing assessment and screening skills to review patient’s medical information with the physician over the telephone to determine which service the patient should be admitted to and which level of care. The (Lead) Throughput Nurse assists in Providing clinical supervision and guidance to the other Throughput Nurses to provide for a centralized channel of communication for questions, concerns, and unmet needs in an effort to ensure that high quality healthcare is maintained. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). 2. Five (5) years of hospital-based experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) OR Associates of Science in Nursing Degree (ASN) or Diploma, currently enrolled in a BSN program and BSN completed within 5 years of hire. 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. EXPERIENCE: 1. Experience in an academic medical center setting. Demonstrates ability to guide other throughput Nurses in synthesizing patient data into a relevant problem focus, identifying potential complications and necessary interventions specific for patient bed placement over telephone by identifying Correct service for patient’s needs as well as correct bed placement assignment. 4. Assists in establishing processes to ensure appropriate clinical decisions and practices are observed and practiced. 5. In response to data indicating commonly occurring risks to patient health status, initiates actions to correct, reduce and/or prevent risk and guides other team members in this process as well. 6. Uses Nursing standards of care and standards of practice to guide others Throughput Nurses in care delivery. 7. Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings. Seeks assistance/credible resource when unable to perform safely and independently. 8. Maintains a constantly courteous, respectful, and approachable personality to facilitate a cooperative and open working relationship with hospital personnel and medical staff to enhance the delivery of healthcare and customer service in the Throughput team. 9. Assists in updating and following established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, & information while guiding others to do so as well. 10. Assumes responsibility for the development of others and the throughput team as a whole. 11. Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development. 12. Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the health care team. Facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision. 13. Functions to promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level. 14. Is responsible for the scheduling process of the entire throughput team. 15. Is responsible for aiding in quality review process by retrieving and reviewing call audio recording files as needed. 16. Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate, providing quality, honest and open Peer feedback as needed.
