About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a new opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based in Osborne SA, or Melbourne VIC.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
Working as a Lead Mechanical Engineer in the HVAC team you will manage a team of mechanical engineers involved in the design and integration of HVAC systems on the Hunter Class Frigate.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical leadership to junior engineers and support their development
  • Working with various stakeholders to resolve relatively complex technical design issues
  • Acting as a point of contact for customers and design partner in assigned areas
  • Undertaking technical review of design documentation
  • Assisting in managing a design partner
  • Seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices of self and team

About YOU

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Aeronautical Engineering
  • Satisfies requirements for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with engineers, project managers and cross-functionally within, and external to, the project
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and a proactive approach to progressing all assigned tasks
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with others, including other engineers, production, suppliers, and designers
  • Ability to train and mentor more junior engineers
  • Proven ability to function effectively and confidently within a complex environment
