Each year over eleven thousand young people from all five New York City boroughs come to The Door for primary health care, reproductive care, health education, dental services, eye care services, mental health counseling, legal services, supportive housing, GED, ESL, tutoring and homework help, college preparation and computer classes, career & education services, job placement, daily meals, cultural arts and services. The Lead Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting the medical providers and the Nursing Supervisor with the provision of clinical services in the Adolescent Health Center. Responsibilities: Assist in the orientation of the client to the health center. Assist in providing comfort for clients in examination room. Responsible for maintaining an orderly, well-stocked examination room and conducting periodic inventory; order necessary supplies as delegated by Supervisor. Screen charts for needed routine lab tests and vaccines, and complete appropriate forms to facilitate this process as much as possible for the practitioner. Measure height, weight, blood pressure, temperature and pulse for clients as needed. Function as a team member by working directly with nurse practitioners, medical doctors, the nurse, health educators, lab staff, operations, and other members of the health team to coordinate the smooth flow of the clinic. Participates in patient-centered medical home care team collaboration, including team huddles. Responsible for the care, cleanliness, and sterilization of equipment. Assist in emergency measures by retrieving the emergency equipment, supporting the provider during an emergency, and acting as messenger as needed. Provide clerical support as assigned by immediate supervisor or medical providers; make charts, file, follow-up calls, complete back-office logs, etc. Order supplies; and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment. Conduct monthly inventory checks of medical equipment. Participate in Quality Assurance Projects as directed by Nursing Supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required Phlebotomy skills (certification or equivalent by a national phlebotomy association preferred) At least 2 years as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient setting Self-starter, with the ability to work independently and troubleshoot as needed Proven ability providing patient privacy and confidentiality Genuine interest in health care and health education Good written and verbal communication skills Spanish Bilingual required Hours: 35 hours a week, some evening hours - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 10:00am - 6:00 pm. Wednesday 10:30am - 6:30pm. Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 annually Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic preferred.
