Description
Through the performance of a variety of technical and routine tasks, the Lead Medical Clinical Associate contributes to patient care in an ambulatory setting, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and within the policies of the Department of Nursing and The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Responsibilities
1. Assist Clinical Nurse Manager/ Designee
a) Responsible for disseminating information to (employees of same title) in their firm or area.
b) Act as a resource and support to the manager in problem solving.
c) Communicate issues of concern for the firm or area to the Manager.
2. Assists in patient care by performing the following:
a) Obtains and records vital signs.
b) Collects and processes blood, urine, sputum and stool specimens.
c) Reports changes in patient parameters or unusual values to the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
d) Provides assistance with procedures such as stocking exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
e) Assists in the collection of screening data, i.e., personal data, chief complaints, past, present family history.
f) Collects specimens for selected tests that assist with diagnosis treatment: urine pregnancy tests, throat cultures, and hemocult.
g) Participates with follow-up of abnormal lab data as directed by the Registered Professional Nurse or physician.
h) Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control, including the use of protective gear.
i) Assists with the procurement of equipment and supplies.
j) Orients patients to ambulatory clinic policies and procedures.
3. Communicates in a clear, concise manner
a) Handles all information in accordance with patient confidentiality regulations.
b) Treats patients with empathy and impartiality.
c) Communicates in a courteous and positive manner.
d) Relates positively to patients, family and staff within the organization.
e) Gives verbal reports to designated RNs and/or MDs.
f) Reports all problems to Clinical Nurse Manager.
4. Maintains competence in various tasks, skills, concepts and functions.
a) Attends JCAHO and mandatory in service and educational programs within the department and hospital.
b) Adheres to departmental policies, procedures and practices.
c) Participates actively in unit based interdisciplinary meetings.
d) Participates in projects and programs carried out within the department.
e) Adheres to The Mount Sinai Hospital dress code.
f) Assists with the preparation and maintenance of medical records.
g) Participates in the continuous quality improvement activities of the unit.
h) Assists in the operational functioning of the unit by insuring inventory needs of equipment and supplies.
i) Locates resources and information for patients and family.

Qualifications

  • BLS Certification Issuing Authority: American Heart Association
  • 2 years experience in a medical office or acute care setting.
