The post holder will work as part of the Clinical Services team in the comprehensive and efficient stock management and supply of medicines.
The post holder will undertake medicines management duties such transcribing and Patient’s Own Drugs (POD) checks with the guidance of a registered pharmacy technician.
The post holder will carry out accuracy checks on designed/screened items to support ward-based relabelling for discharge, following departmental standard operating procedures.
The post holder will manage the Pharmacy Returns Officer and oversee/supervise the day-to-day workload and rotation of the Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistants (MMPAs) across the Trust.
The post holder will mentor and support training of junior and senior pharmacy support workers and other members of staff as deemed appropriate by the chief pharmacy technician – clinical services.
The post holder will review and manage the stock management and returns from wards.

• To undertake medicines management duties such transcribing medicines, checking patient’s own drug (POD) and medicine returns.
• To undertake dispensing, final accuracy checking of screened items, support relabelling and support with the discharge counselling process.
• To assist in the transfer of medicines between wards and locating medicines that have been left behind when patients are transferred between wards, including PODs.
• To deliver a customer-focused service to all patients.
• To make decisions based on the relevant information to solve problems and refer where necessary to the appropriate pharmacist or medicines management technician any issues or queries related to the wards or dispensary.
• Dealing with problems associated with the ordering of stock and specials on behalf of the pharmacy team and refer where appropriate, liaising closely with pharmacy stores and procurement.
• To actively participate in cost-saving initiatives such as recycling and recording medication which is deemed appropriate for re-use.
• To participate in Trust adverse incident reporting scheme.
• To contribute to the provision of information to trust staff on effective medicines management.
• Refer patients, with their consent, to their nominated Community Pharmacy under the Discharge Medicines Scheme (DMS).
• To liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient transfer of clinical and medicines management issues.
