Responsibilities

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Operational Risk Officer.
Corporate Risk Lead Operational Risk Officer role is responsible for the independent oversight of front line operational risk management effectiveness of the Corporate Risk function. This role is expected to engage with business and risk resources within the front line to influence and challenge risk management activities and decisions. Operational risk is the risk resulting from inadequate or failed internal controls and processes, people and systems, or resulting from external events. Operational risk is inherent in all Wells Fargo products and services as it often arises in the presence of other risk types.
This role will develop specific subject matter expertise for the Corporate Risk Group, will be considered a thought leader and will assist the business oversight leader with all matters pertaining to Operational Risk coverage and oversight. In this capacity, this role reviews and challenges significant front line operational risk program execution, including, but not limited to, business continuity, payments, external fraud, information risk management, safety and physical security, transaction processing and execution, third-party risk management and various risk assessment policies and programs.

In this role, you will:

  • Leverage experience to bring industry leading standards, practices, and tools to the Oversee and challenge Corporate Risk across all operational risk routines including plan, identify and assess, control, and mitigate, test and validate, monitor and report
  • Perform independent risk assessment of Corporate Risk
  • Use operations subject matter expertise and industry knowledge to provide independent oversight and credible challenge to the Line of Business’ operational risk management activities
  • Active engagement in key Corporate Risk risk governance routines inclusive of strategic planning sessions, governance committees and business reviews
  • Engage with subject matter experts supporting various risk types and related business aligned oversight partners to execute oversight and challenge of Operations functions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Business Managers, Independent Risk teams, and Group Control Executive teams to drive change and improve risk management programs
  • Build and sustain a strong risk culture including a balanced approach through working in cooperation and consultation with all lines of defense across the organization
  • Develop, implement, and monitor risk-based programs to identify, assess, and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events
  • Evaluate cross-program and cross-group analytics to identify opportunities and best practices to influence stronger risk management practices by the business
  • Maintain a balance between risk mitigation and operational efficiency
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls
  • Analyze extremely complex business and system changes to determine impact, identify operational risk issues and participate in the development of risk ratings
  • Provide operational risk expertise and consulting to complex business units for initiatives with high risk, generally spanning multiple business lines
  • Consult with the business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manage change
  • Report findings and develop business cases to influence executive management, management committee member or head of business on the need for controls to mitigate risk
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Lead project or virtual teams and mentor less experienced staff
