Position Purpose: We are looking for a Senior / Lead Platform Engineer to lead our Automation team within Platform Engineering. This role is responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable platform capabilities with a strong emphasis on GitHub Enterprise (GHE) administration, governance, and developer enablement. You will play a key leadership role in shaping our GitOps strategy, CI/CD standards, and Internal Developer Platform (IDP) while driving automation, consistency, and self-service across engineering teams. The ideal candidate combines strong platform engineering expertise, hands-on development skills, and emerging AI/automation capabilities. Responsibilities Primary duties will include: Leadership & Strategy Lead and mentor a team of platform/automation engineers Define and drive the platform engineering roadmap aligned with organisational goals Collaborate with stakeholders (engineering, security, DevOps, leadership) to deliver scalable solutions Establish best practices for GitOps, CI/CD, and platform governance GitHub Enterprise (GHE) Administration & Governance Own and manage GitHub Enterprise (Cloud/Server) at scale Design and implement org/repo structures aligned to business verticals Define and enforce RBAC models (teams, roles, permissions, CODEOWNERS) Standardise repository templates, workflows, and policies Implement security controls (branch protections, secret scanning, Dependabot, audit compliance) Automate onboarding/offboarding of teams and repositories Provide developer enablement and support across GHE ecosystem Platform Engineering & Automation Build and operate an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to enable self-service capabilities Design reusable CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions / Azure DevOps) Drive infrastructure as code (Terraform) and GitOps practices Automate platform workflows including provisioning, deployments, and compliance Integrate tools across ecosystem (Kubernetes, cloud, identity, secrets management) Development & AI Enablement (Preferred) Contribute to platform tooling using PowerShell, Python, Go, or similar Build automation solutions leveraging APIs and event-driven workflows Explore and implement AI-driven automation (e.g., incident analysis, developer assistance, chatops) Improve developer experience through intelligent tooling and integration Qualifications To land this role you will need: Strong experience in Platform Engineering / DevOps / SRE roles Hands-on expertise with GitHub Enterprise administration Deep understanding of: Git, GitHub workflows, Actions RBAC and organisational structures Experience with: Terraform / Infrastructure as Code Kubernetes (AKS, Rancher, or similar) CI/CD design and implementation Strong scripting/programming skills (PowerShell, Python, or Go) Experience leading or mentoring engineers (team lead or senior role) Strong problem-solving and system design skills What makes you stand out: Experience building or operating an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) Familiarity with GitOps (Argo CD, Kustomize, Helm) Exposure to AI/ML or intelligent automation use cases Experience with enterprise-scale governance and compliance (SOX, audit, controls) Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred) Working environment: Hybrid role, 4 days in-office. #LI-Hybrid #LI-MA1
