Job Summary: The Lead Plumber provides technical leadership and hands-on supervision to the Plumbing Shop while performing advanced journeyman-level plumbing work. This role ensures the reliable installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and utility infrastructure at the William J. Hughes Technical Center. The William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace's normal hours of operation (NHO) are 6:00 A.M. through 6:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead, assign, and review the work of Plumbers and related personnel in the Plumbing Shop. Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures. Execute utility-type work including water main repairs, flanged piping connections, thermoplastic fusion techniques, and pump alignment services. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plumbing systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose complex plumbing problems. Read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications. Respond to emergency plumbing issues and provide on-site technical direction. Ensure compliance with plumbing codes, safety standards, and best practices. Train and mentor subordinate plumbers. Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and team activities. Collaborate with other trades and departments on facility projects. Qualifications and Special Requirements: Must possess either a license or five (5) years of experience as a journeyman level plumber. Must meet all licensing or journeyman qualifications requirements of the state of New Jersey. Must have experience with utility-type work, including, but not limited to: water main repairs, flanged piping connections, thermoplastic fusion techniques, pump alignment services, etc. Must possess a NJ Backflow Tester/Prevention Certification or have the ability to acquire the certification within 30 days of hiring. Demonstrated leadership or lead experience in a plumbing trade environment is preferred.
