JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Project Engineer – Mechanical Design role is a senior level position responsible for architecting and leading the mechanical design of custom industrial automation systems. The successful candidate will review solution concepts developed by the sales and applications teams and transform them into a detailed project plan with discrete tasks and estimated hours. They will assign work to the appropriate mechanical engineering resources, mentor and provide technical guidance, and directly contribute to the design by creating mechanical drawings and documentation using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks. This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering and is 100 % on site in either Rochester, NY or Painted Post, NY.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPEREINCE:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years of mechanical design engineering experience in custom industrial automation; experience designing robotic work cells, custom jigs/fixtures and material handling systems.
  • Hands on automation system build and commissioning experience preferred.

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with diverse internal and external groups.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and a hands on approach to problem solving.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team; able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to develop project plans, manage tasks and allocate resources.Ability to fit and assemble components according to engineering drawings and manuals.
