As our Lead Pupil Support Team (PST) Mentor, you will report directly to the PST Manager and play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating a dedicated team, addressing the diverse needs of our pupils and empowering them to overcome barriers to learning. You’ll have a specific focus on promoting positive behaviour and managing the daily operations within the Pupil Support Team (PST).

What you’ll do:

  • Supervise and coordinate a team of mentors to address the needs of pupils who require additional support.
  • Liaise with teaching staff to assess and provide particular support to targeted pupils to raise achievement and enable them to overcome barriers to learning, including those related to challenging behaviour.
  • Be accountable for identifying needs and assessing pupils requiring extra support, developing individual action plans which may include behaviour support strategies, and working with an allocation of pupils.
  • Line manage other learning and behaviour mentors within the school, including staff training and development, ensuring coordinated and effective daily pupil support within PST.
  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers to help address poor performance / attendance / behaviour.
  • Undertake home visits to keep parents/carers informed and secure positive family support.
  • Monitor the implementation of plans and report on progress achieved, supporting the re-integration of pupils excluded from school or following an alternative timetable.
  • Provide extra support to pupils through knowledge of a range of activities and opportunities available to them.
  • Contribute to improving the learning mentor PST service and school plans.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external agencies/organisations to set up resources/initiatives to help address barriers to learning.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • We are seeking a highly motivated individual with:
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to confidently articulate ideas and engage effectively with pupils, parents, and staff.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and to lead by example.
  • A strong understanding of supporting learning, development, and wellbeing, ideally demonstrated through relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 4 or equivalent) or extensive practical experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in behaviour management and implementing behaviour support strategies.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within an educational or support setting.
  • A compassionate and proactive approach to addressing barriers to learning and promoting positive behaviour.
