[What the role is] This is a 2-year contract position as a Lead R&D Engineer in the Centre for Environmental Sustainability. Be part of a team driving sustainability and innovation! We are seeking a forward-thinking professional to lead process design and system integration for energy efficient solution, particularly in HVAC system. This role combines technical leadership with business development and emphasizes innovation in heating and cooling process control in both industrial or commercial application, diagnostic maintenance using sensor outputs, and integration with control optimization. [What you will be working on] Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Secure and lead consultancy projects end to end, from scoping to delivery. Develop targeted industry partnerships to bring in consultancy engagements aligned with process control and diagnostics. Develop novel solutions to address industry problem statements in the area of energy and process efficiency. Provide thermo-mechanical design expertise for cooling systems at a component, subassembly, and system level. Collaborate on the technical integration across a wide range of disciplines according to project requirements. Conduct training either as a formal short course or as part of the consultancy work. Mentor and inspire students, cultivating talent in applied research and sustainable technology development. [What we are looking for] We are looking for a mechanical engineering expert in the area of thermodynamics (thermofluid expertise would be advantageous) with a passion for developing solutions for industry. Applicants are expected to be highly motivated and versatile individuals with the following attributes and qualifications: At least M.Eng qualifications in Mechanical engineering in the area of thermodynamics and thermofluid with at least 10 years of industrial experience. Good knowledge of computer-aided design, building facilities and energy management, and chilled water systems. Prior experience working in mechanical system design, fabrication and testing and commissioning, performance improvement, thermal system analysis, and building HVAC and refrigeration systems. Experience in conducting energy performance evaluation, familiar with IPMVP protocol. Hands-on experience in design and simulation software such as SolidWorks and FloMASTER would be preferred. Ability to coordinate and communicate within the team (staff, student interns, and industry collaborator) with good interpersonal skills. Good written and oral communication skills.
