We are looking for a mechanical engineering expert specialising in thermodynamics, with strong applied thermofluid and thermal system experience, and a passion for developing solutions for industry. You will take a lead role in system‑level design, translating thermal principles into practical, deployable engineering solutions. As part of the Energy Efficiency Team in CFES, you will work closely with industry partners to secure and deliver consultancy and applied R&D projects, supporting technology development, translation, and deployment in line with our technology roadmap. Applicants should be hands‑on engineers with experience designing, analysing, and deploying real‑world thermal and fluid systems, rather than purely theoretical or upstream research work. [What you will be working on] Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Lead thermo‑mechanical system design at component, sub‑assembly, and system levels Design, analyse, and optimise thermofluid systems such as HVAC, cooling systems, heat exchangers, and energy recovery systems Develop project scope, define system requirements, and prepare technical proposals for industry consultancy projects Apply thermodynamic and heat transfer principles to solve real‑world industrial and building energy problems Conduct system modelling, simulation, and performance analysis to support design decisions Support fabrication, testing, commissioning, and performance improvement of deployed systems Collaborate with embedded software and electrical engineers on integrated system solutions Conduct applied R&D to develop and translate new technologies aligned with CFES’ technology roadmap Deliver training to industry partners through formal short courses or as part of consultancy engagements [What we are looking for] Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with at least 5 years of relevant industrial experience Strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, with demonstrated applied experience Hands‑on experience in thermal and thermofluid system design, analysis, and optimisation Proficiency in CAD and design tools such as SolidWorks; experience with simulation tools (e.g. CFD, FloMASTER) would be an advantage Experience in HVAC, chilled water systems, refrigeration, or energy systems is highly desirable Familiarity with energy performance evaluation and IPMVP protocol would be an advantage Experience in applied R&D, consultancy services, or industrial system deployment Ability to coordinate effectively with staff, student interns, and industry collaborators Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and systems‑thinking skills Good written and oral communication skills http://jobs.careers.gov.sg The Singapore Public Service plays a key role in the economic growth, progress and stability of Singapore by formulating and implementing government policies, as well as providing key public services.
