WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Lead Section Grower at our Niagara-on-the-Lake facilities to help supervise and lead our growing teams in the day to day execution of plant growing functions. This facility primarily grows over 1000 varieties of perennials in 4” up to 2g size. This position is full time year round with salary and benefits, and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in greenhouse or nursery production.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

If you know how to grow crops, are organized, and can effectively supervise people, then you’re probably a good fit for this position.
Formal education is a benefit but not required. Knowledge of greenhouse mechanical and irrigation systems, as well as Argus software, is beneficial but not required. You will need a valid pesticide license. If you do not have one we will pay for your training to get one.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOUR ROLE WOULD BE

  • You will personally take responsibility for growing a section of crops on the nursery
  • You will assist our Head Grower by supervising a team of 2-4 other growers who in turn are supervising small crews
  • You will help our growing team organize their day, execute work safely, correctly, and efficiently, and help the team stay focused on key objectives
  • You will help the Head grower with other administrative functions such as team scheduling, record keeping, and training
    Executing these functions well will help us develop effective teams, who in turn will produce excellent crops efficiently and on time, which helps us achieve our corporate Vision of being the Canadian market leader in our industry.

AS THE LEAD SECTION GROWER, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE TO

  • Assume responsibility for growing and taking care of a section of plants in the facility
  • Manage and direct the other Section Growers on daily checking and irrigation of crops and their growing zones
  • Supervise general plant care activities (pruning, spacing, organizing crops)
  • Monitor pest scouting procedures, apply treatments, and keep accurate records
  • Assist the Head Grower in developing weekly treatment and crop protection plans
  • Provide guidance and training to new staff on our work processes
  • Assess crops with salable counts so that Sales can sell what you’ve grown
    This is a dynamic, exciting role with lots of different elements to it. You are likely to be involved in many other elements of crop production and growing as you work with your team and other departments.
