LEAD MACHINIST – DAY & NIGHT SHIFTS

Location: Edmonton
A fast-paced, high-precision CNC manufacturing facility is looking for multiple strong setup machinists for day and night shifts. This is a highly technical role involving multiple setups and programs daily, working with Mazak, Doosan, and Siemens controls on both lathes and mills.
Our ideal candidates are expert problem-solvers with the ability to adapt quickly, uphold exceptional quality standards, and lead by example on the shop floor.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in CNC programming and setup; experience with Mazak (Mazatrol), Fanuc, and Siemens controls preferred.
  • Strong background in both lathe and mill operation and setup.
  • Excellent blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues efficiently.
  • Experience with high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Mastercam).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and process optimization.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Forklift operation experience is an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes and milling machines to produce high-precision parts according to specifications.
  • Perform multiple daily setups and programs efficiently without compromising quality.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models to determine machining requirements.
  • Utilize various hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.) to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on machines to ensure reliability.
  • Work closely with management and programming teams to improve processes, reduce setup times, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct in-process and final quality checks to meet industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Train and mentor apprentices and operators on machine operation, setup procedures, safety practices, and efficient workflows.
  • Support team members with technical guidance and problem-solving during production.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace in alignment with safety and housekeeping standards.
