We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer, Games to own and scale the games experience across our mobile app and backend systems. In this role, you’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering Leadership, and Infrastructure to deliver high-impact, real-time experiences that power how users engage with Chalkboard. Your Game Plan: Own and drive the end-to-end development, delivery, and scaling of the games experience across mobile and backend systems while rapidly iterating in a high-impact, fast-moving environment. Deliver and scale a high-quality v0 of the games experience with speed and confidence Own backend services, ensuring correctness, performance, and reliability Architect systems that are simple to start and built for rapid iteration Lead technical planning, execution, and stakeholder alignment Take ownership of systems regardless of original authorship Drive high standards in architecture, testing, and execution Build trust with Product, Engineering, and Leadership through consistent delivery Navigate tight deadlines and high-impact deliverables Operate effectively across greenfield and existing systems Ramp quickly despite incomplete documentation and onboarding challenges Balance speed and quality with pragmatic decision-making Partner cross-functionally with Product, Infra, and Engineering teams Support and elevate teammates through collaboration and leadership Act as a technical leader, collaborator, and problem-solver across teams What You Bring to the Team: React Native, Go, Node, Postgres, MongoDB, Redis (Firestore a plus); experience with Kubernetes, cloud functions, and AI-assisted development 8+ years of software development experience Proven experience building MVPs that scale into successful products Experience working on systems with high transaction volume and real-time requirements Background in financial or money-based applications Strong expertise in system architecture, planning, and execution Passion for testing (unit, integration, and beyond) Pro Points: Experience in gaming, gambling, or similar high-throughput environments Experience with randomization systems (e.g., loot boxes or RNG-heavy systems) Why Chalkboard: We care about results, but also how we get there.
