POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Software Engineer for our Portals team will be a key contributor to full lifecycle software development while coaching, leading, and mentoring their technical team. This role oversees the technical details and day-to-day execution of new features and operational activities within the development team in collaboration with the technical product owner, release engineer, and other engineering leadership. The Lead Engineer is a critical element in our agile delivery process for new features and capabilities to support our growing music royalty processing platform which includes web and mobile applications as well as integrations with multiple internal and external systems. DC-based candidates will be required to come into our DC office twice a week. All other candidates will be asked to travel into the DC office approximately 3-4 times per year for all staff meetings or as other business needs dictate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSAS):

  • Proficiency at designing and developing software using many of the following: Python, Django, SQL (Postgres), AWS (S3, ECS, Fargate, OpenSearch, RDS, CloudFront, Lambda, etc.), JavaScript, Typescript
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code technologies
  • Experience with Vue, Angular, or React
  • Experience building software with complex business rules and data models
  • Experience designing and developing microservices or other distributed systems
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively with team members and business partners
  • Proficiency in Agile software development methodology, processes, and practices

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Experience with migrating legacy application to modern technologies
  • Experience with scaling to work with large data sets

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS/ LICENSES, RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • 7 or more years of experience in software engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience leading a software engineering team

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • If hired remote, this person is expected to travel to the Washington DC corporate office as needed (3-4 times per year).
Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to a team of software engineers
  • Lead Agile ceremonies and processes to support the design, development, testing, and support of data driven solutions
  • Facilitate architecture discussions and decision-making both within their team and in coordination with interfacing teams
  • Interface with key project stakeholders, mentor team members, and promote and improve software engineering practices
  • Demonstrate responsibility, accountability, and dedication to success of the engineering team
  • Establish and promote use of technologies and processes that lower risk and increase efficiency
  • Support and improve established software development standards and practices
  • Support and improve existing software applications, including occasional off-hours support
