Lead Software Simulation Engineer Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Software Simulation Engineer to support our Starliner Software Team located in Houston, Texas. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization. Be part of a high-impact team shaping the future of human spaceflight. As the Senior Software Simulation Lead on the CST‑100 Starliner program, you will own the design, certification, and sustainment of safety‑critical simulation software used across development, integration and formal qualification testing. You’ll lead the Avionics and Software Integration Lab (ASIL) simulation efforts – including integrating GN&C software components, and support mission console operations. This role places you at the intersection of software engineering and human spaceflight—working closely with a team of local and remote simulation team members, Flight Software team members, and NASA Commercial Crew stakeholders—to deliver trusted, certifiable simulation capabilities that enable safe crewed missions. You will provide hands‑on technical leadership and mentorship to a team of simulation engineers, driving design reviews, certification artifacts, and metrics that demonstrate readiness and performance. Responsibilities include leading simulation architectures, models, tools, and trade studies; owning proposal and estimation efforts; guiding agile development practices; and approving technical approaches and processes. This is an onsite, full‑time role where your decisions will directly influence mission safety and success. Position Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate simulation efforts across internal program teams and NASA Commercial Crew Program stakeholders. Develop, maintain, and evolve simulations, models, and analysis tools, including addressing technical debt. Own technical design reviews and prepare certification artifacts required for program approval. Define and track program and customer metrics and key performance indicators for simulation activities. Approve technical approaches, products, and processes, providing daily technical leadership and mentorship to software teams. Drive team performance, foster motivation, and ensure alignment with program objectives. Be the principal technical authority for simulation activities, responsible for ensuring solutions meet safety, certification, and operational requirements. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering 10+ years of experience working in lab test, flight test, or similar test environment 10+ years of experience with mission/safety-critical software development 3+ years of experience leading projects or engineering teams Experience with C/C++, Python, or C# Ability to obtain clearance post-start Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 5+ years of experience in hardware and software integration Experience with Software Architecture domains Experience working in an Agile software development environment. Experience with developing concepts of operations for complex software systems Experience with Git or a similar version control system. Experience performing technical leadership responsibilities Experience developing and tracing software requirements. Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems such as VxWorks. Experience with Hardware and Software Integration lab environments. Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. Travel: 10% of the time.
