1. JOB DETAILS: Position Title: Lead Specialist: Production Operations Broad Band: M11: Experienced professional Talent Pipeline Layer: Managing Self Expert Consultant (MS) 2. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE: Provide technical leadership (specific plant/operations and part of bordering value chain) to ensure continuous, effective and efficient plant/production operations through the control and operation of chemical processes, systems and/or machines, with strict adherence to safety and operational regulations, rules and procedures 3. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Qualification: Formal Production/Process qualification (e.g. National Diploma, Tech, MTech) Experience: 10 Years relevant experience Skills: * Acute safety awareness and attitude * Extensive experience of shutdowns and start-ups * Advanced analytical and problem solving skills * Expert understanding of the value chain * Sound knowledge of applicable engineering technologies * Expert knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods * Advanced knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. Conduct research & development that leads to new solutions being implemented in the organization * Provide guidance and advice to operators re control of machines and processes * Provide input, advice and recommendations to management and engineering colleagues to resolve problems and optimise plant/process operations * Contribute to Operation/Plant strategy * Analyse and interpret information and results to choose and advise the best solution and solve problems * Oversee processes and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess evidence of operating problems * Identifying information by categorising, estimating, recognising differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events * Inspect and oversee inspection of equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects * Oversee or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment * Control or maintain auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, or chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air, or auxiliary power * Control power generating equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, or reactors, using control boards or semi-automatic equipment * Advice on and move control settings to start, stop or make necessary adjustments on machinery and equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields, etc. * Leading role in start and shut down and start-up of plant equipment following due processes and procedures * Oversee transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed * Manage monitoring of recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, gauges, dials or other indicators and listen for warning signals to verify conformity of process conditions * Manage monitoring of equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should, safety, and efficient operation, and to pro-actively detect malfunction * Manage operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas * Review and interpret operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows * Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations following protocol * Inspect/lead inspection of operating units, such as towers, soap-spray storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency * Contribute ensuring compliance to HSERQ requirements * Perform senior standby duty * Active member of special projects teams (multi-discipline) Leadership 1.
