Description

The Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA) is a first-mover alliance of governments and stakeholders that are working toward a global, managed, and just phase-out of oil and gas production. BOGA was launched at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow as the first government-led Alliance committed to phasing out oil and gas production. Its core members have committed to ending new licensing rounds for oil and gas and to a Paris-aligned end date for production.
At COP27, BOGA announced new members and friends, launched what is now a USD $20 million BOGA Fund to support developing countries in their transitions, and helped rally over 80 governments in support of the phase-out of all fossil fuels. At COP28, BOGA played a central role in delivering the first global agreement to transition away from fossil fuels. At COP29, BOGA led calls for finance for just transitions, and NDCs that reflect the global transition away from fossil fuels.
BOGA’s continued success depends on translating the first global commitment to transition away from fossil fuels into action in a complex international environment. This means supporting BOGA members’ ambitions, bringing new members into the Alliance, and ensuring that the focus on transitioning away from oil and gas is maintained through international climate, energy, and economic dialogues. Doing this requires an experienced, ambitious, and diverse BOGA Secretariat team.
We are now hiring a strategic communications lead to help develop and deliver BOGA’s vision. This is a fantastic opportunity to join and shape an exciting Alliance that is setting the international agenda on the phase-out of oil and gas, ahead of a critical period for action on oil and gas dependency ahead of COP30, being hosted in Belem in November 2025.
We are looking for a highly skilled and ambitious professional, with a deep understanding of the political, economic, and social barriers to phasing out oil and gas production and with a track record of driving change in government and/or international organisation contexts. We are looking for team players and self-starters who are happy working collaboratively with BOGA Secretariat colleagues, government counterparts, and other stakeholders, and the experience to independently develop areas of the Secretariat’s work. Staff will be fluent in written and spoken English, with proficiency in other languages being highly desirable. They will have strong interpersonal and organisational skills.

The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of leading high-impact campaigns in government or international contexts, with a strong understanding of the political dynamics surrounding climate change and the transition away from fossil fuels. As a senior advisor to the Head of Secretariat, the Strategic Communications Lead also leads the Secretariat’s participation in major events and manages high-level partnerships that elevate BOGA’s profile and influence.

Candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant experience, with strong climate and energy expertise. with a proven track record of developing and leading strategic communications within government or international organization settings, including campaigns aligned with key dialogues and political processes.
