ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming (or STA equivalent)
  • SEQ Safeguarding in Aquatics
  • Experience teaching swimmers of different ages and abilities
  • Ability to mentor others and provide constructive feedback
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a team

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • SEQ Level 3 Swim Coordinator qualification (or equivalent)
  • National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches (NRASTC), NPLQ, or STA equivalent
  • CPDs: Introduction to Disability Swimming / Supporting Pupils with SEND in School Swimming
  • Experience in a customer-focused role

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join York Vikings Swimming Club as our Lead Swim Teacher and make a real difference in young swimmers’ lives! You will deliver high-quality lessons, mentor a dedicated teaching team, and ensure our Learn-to-Swim programme runs smoothly in line with Swim England’s framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and take ownership of the Learn-to-Swim Programme (Stages 1–7), ensuring sessions are safe, engaging, and effective.
  • Deliver high-quality swimming lessons and act as a role model for teachers, assistants, and volunteers.
  • Mentor and support the teaching team, providing constructive feedback to maintain high standards.
  • Plan and coordinate lesson delivery, staffing, and swimmer assessments in collaboration with the Swim Teaching Manager.
  • Track swimmer progress using Swim Club Manager (SCM) and issue Swim England Learn to Swim Awards.
  • Act as the key liaison between teachers and parents, communicating swimmer progress, addressing queries, and ensuring a positive, customer-focused experience.
  • Contribute to staff professional development, identifying training needs and supporting growth.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all swimmers.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, health & safety, and equality at all times.
