What we are looking for: A Lead Systems Designer, to lead, mentor, and be the junction point of multiple design disciplines, the holder of a cohesive vision, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret substantial amounts of data and decipher the right knobs to turn to give players a fantastic metagame experience. You have a strong passion for managing, your system design is top-notch, and your knowledge of major game systems is unparalleled. You are exactly the designer we need for an exciting new AAA IP at Escape Velocity Entertainment. What we will do together: Collaborate closely with the Studio Design Director, Design Director’s, and other Design Leads to drive the vision for the major systems and systems balancing for a robust online multiplayer experience. Create expert level creative vision and technical guidance for our metagame experience, to include matchmaking systems, ELO algorithms and theories, skills systems, currencies and economy, and weapon/ability balancing. Grow, then lead a formidable team of metagame/systems designers to assist you with the implementation of these major systems, and work closely with the game’s user experience, level, gameplay, and content teams to ensure a cohesive player experience. Communicate with Leads and Directors of other disciplines, particularly engineering, and ensure that everyone is on the same page before beginning systems development. Advocate for the player, always putting the player experience first when considering and making all design decisions. What you will bring: A can-do attitude that is player oriented…systems design is one of the most technical areas of design, but you remember that simplicity is often a player’s best friend. Strong Managerial experience, leading a team of Designers. Leadership skills that include genuinely caring about the career growth of those that work for you and around you At least two shipped AAA titles where you worked in a systems design capacity Expert knowledge of off-the-shelf design tools, and expertise with Unreal Engine (UE5 preferred) Professional understanding of the many major metagame systems found in contemporary game titles, and a keen knowledge for how those systems work.
