OUR OPPORTUNITY

Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)
In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet.
Based at our Redcliffe office and reporting to the Principal Engineer – Test, Simulation & CAE, we are presently looking for a Lead Systems Simulation Engineer.
As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of advanced simulation tools, driving critical decisions in our decarbonization programs. Your work will directly contribute to the advancement of electrification technologies, further solidifying Fortescue’s position as an industry leader in sustainable mining practices.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Mechatronic Engineering or related fields
  • Additional qualifications in Rail and/or Systems Engineering are advantageous
  • Proven track record with at least 10+ years of professional experience in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Analytics, or Data Science
  • Expertise in building intricate multi-physics simulations using tools such as Simscape, Simulink and GT Suite
  • Proficiency in 1D simulations within the Simulink environment, including Simulink model compiling
  • Advanced proficiency in Matlab, C/C++ or Python programming languages
  • Familiarity with code-gen methodologies to generate embedded code
  • Familiarity with SiL & HiL frameworks, coupled with extensive experience in testing, verifying, and validating models and simulations
  • Experience with Converge, Openfoam, and AVL Fire is a plus
  • Proven ability to provide guidance and mentoring and convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and refine simulation tools to provide valuable insights for strategic decision-making on various decarbonization initiatives
  • Drive and influence key technology pathways and control strategies through the effective analysis and interpretation of simulation data
  • Design comprehensive validation plans to ensure the reliability and accuracy of simulations, effectively translating virtual models into real-world applications
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to a small team of engineers
  • Liaise with system leads and engineers to determine system specifications and operation
  • Work with the powertrain controls team to plan, implement and verify embedded applications
  • Support feasibility studies
  • Simulation task planning and resource forecasting.
