Job Summary The Lead Teacher (LT) is responsible for the overall coordination of educational services for youth. Lead Teacher ensures that all unaccompanied children UC receive educational assessments and a structured education per the Office of Refugees Resettlement (ORR). The Lead Teacher conducts an educational assessment of each UAC in order to determine the academic level of the child and develops a curriculum based on needs. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for maintaining a positive and appropriate educational environment and creating a program that meets the intellectual and emotional needs of all the children. Essential Functions:  1. Responsible for general oversight and coordination of educational services and staff. Supervising, scheduling and monitoring while providing oversight in the education development, implementing policies, procedures, ORR guidelines, regulations and reports to assure effective department functioning and documentation of activity and performance outcomes. 2. Responsible for curriculum development, which facilitates instruction appropriate for students with a variety of academic competencies, backgrounds, skills, and learning needs. 3. Adapt or modify local educational standards to develop curricula and assessments, in basic academic areas (Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing, Physical Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL), if applicable). 4. Provide educational services based on the individual academic development, literacy level, and linguistic ability of each unaccompanied child. 5. Maintain classroom inventory and place purchase request for equipment, supplies and classroom materials, may include textbooks, furniture, and other equipment needed to assist in the provision of instruction, in accordance with classroom budget. 6. Responsible for working collaboratively with program administrators to ensure that the collaborative process between the unit supervisors, teachers, case managers and clinical staff occurs on a consistent and ongoing basis to ensure that unit programming is developed, implemented, and maintained This is not necessarily an all-inclusive list of job-related responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts, requirements or working conditions. Qualifications and Requirements Education/Work Experience: Level: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum Development, English as a second language (ESL), Math, Science, Spanish or English. 1. Certification by the relevant governing authority, Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate accrediting body. 2. Additional training to meet the special needs of unaccompanied alien children. 3. 2 years of experience in relevant field. 4. 2 years of experience in a supervisory role. 5. 2 years of experience in teaching capacity and lesson planning. 6. Previous experience of instructional Design and Curriculum Development. 7. Classroom teaching experience in an accredited early childhood facility. 8. Ability to read, write and converse proficiently in Spanish and English and the ability to translate written Spanish into English. 9. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive) with the ability to learn new software 10. Demonstrates adaptive leadership through supportive coaching and mentoring to direct care, supervisory staff and teacher assistant through regular administrative supervision and training opportunities. 11. Demonstrate an understanding of the value of cultural diversity, including the ability to develop systems and practices that are inclusive of diverse staff members and responsive to the cultural needs of the client population served. Working Conditions/ Physical Effort (Update din ADP and JD’s) Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Some overnight travel; public speaking, evening and weekend work are requirements of the position. Regular computer work is also required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
