Description Lead Teaching Artists (ages 24+) lead their Teaching Artist(s) and a team of Apprentices (ages 14-21) to create public art and community impact project on a seasonal basis (Summer). This job is available to artists with advanced technical skills who are excited to share their craft with the next generation. Seasonal project teams most often paint massive outdoor murals, but past projects have also included creative writing, dance, fashion, filmmaking, photography, and research. Lead Teaching Artists’ objective is twofold: to lead the successful completion of a seasonal project; and to nurture their Apprentices’ skills in collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, goal orientation, and growth orientation. Lead Teaching Artist wages are $34.72 an hour. Lead Teaching Artists work 35 hours per week for an 8-week period, beginning in early June. Scheduled work hours are subject to change owing to inclement weather, but are typically between 8am – 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday. Lead Teaching Artists must attend mandatory orientation the week of May 26-29 between 9am – 5pm (exact hours TBD). Key Job Responsibilities: Report directly to the Creative Project Manager assigned to the project. Oversee the Teaching Artist(s) and Apprentices assigned to the project. Maintain communication with the Creative Project Manager via Basecamp and phone during work hours for the duration of the project. Lead the development and execution of the project's weekly plans to support the artistic outcome and the professional development of Apprentices. Lead the plan/approach for the execution of the project's artistic design. Lead hands on technical artistic instruction for the project to the Teaching Artist(s) and Apprentices. Maintain the project timeline and budget as communicated by the Creative Project Manager. Create and maintain a safe and positive team dynamic on-site. Uphold ArtWorks' policies and procedures. Requirements Qualifications and experiences: Must be at least 24 years old at the start of employment. Must be available during scheduled work hours, with minimal conflicts. Must commit to ArtWorks’ mission, vision, values, culture and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility Plan. Skills and abilities: Advanced artistic skills and experience leading and executing large-scale projects, as evidenced by a strong visual portfolio. Advanced organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Advanced communication skills, oral and written, that include listening, receiving and giving feedback. Advanced teaching skills, as evidenced by the ability to instruct Apprentices with varying degrees of artistic knowledge and ability. Advanced leadership skills, as evidenced by the ability to take initiative, balance priorities, and meet deadlines. Eager to collaborate, work with others, and motivate a diverse team of young people.
Responsibilities
