Job Purpose Job Purpose The Lead Track Engineer operates as the subject matter expert (SME or technical head) of the track and civil discipline for maintenance delivery. The position provides effective leadership and sustainable working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure site safety, quality and environment controls and risk management. The Lead Track Engineer oversees the technical and engineering aspects of the delivery of the technical maintenance plan and provides support to the maintenance team in meeting quality, safety, budget and performance targets. Key Responsibilities Support and monitor the execution of the Technical Maintenance Plan Delegated Engineering authority to make engineering decisions relating to the integrity of civil assets. Assist projects by anticipating and fulfilling any requirement for specialist track equipment in a manner that minimises risks to both health and safety and project completion. Maximise the utilisation of resources and fixed assets and ensuring adequate ongoing maintenance and asset life cycle. Assist in the preparation of track and civil expenditure budgets, reports and forecasts and ensure they are presented in a timely manner. Manage TSR within the network in conjunction with the Maintenance Delivery Manager & Superintendents Monitor expenditure and prepare forward planning of track and civil requirements for future projects, in terms of output quality and quantity, cost, time available and labour requirements. Maintain awareness of compliance, technical, and financial aspects of the track and civil functions to provide maximum service and support track improvements as directed. Lead technical maintenance engineers staff to achieve performance productivity and safety targets in relation to the track and civil assets. Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions. Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards. Analyse and use track and civil documents/data and records to produce progress and project performance compliance reporting. Assess the defect management conducted by the maintenance teams to ensure that local practices and methods meet contractual and UGLRL requirements and provide suitable assurance of track safety and integrity. Review track and civil asset performance analysis. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Science, Building Construction or relevant and equivalent industry experience Minimum 7-10 years rail engineering experience in a similar role (Senior project Engineer, Senior track Engineer, Civil Maintenance Engineer, Principal Engineer etc) Experience with Financial budgets, Asset Management systems Project Engineer and operational experience Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specification, standards, and implications for project accountabilities Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply engineering designs.
