Description

Depot Connect International (DCI) are global leaders in the Isotank container transportation services Industry and specialise in the movement of hazardous products Globally.
Due to the continued growth of the business and new business plans we are now looking to recruit a Lead Transport Planner to join our team here in Barry.
Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 15:00 / 08:00 to 17:00 plus 1 in 3 on-call Saturday shifts (monthly on-call allowance will apply).

The successful candidate should have the following skills:

  • Previous experience in transport, logistics or a planning role is required.
  • A good geographical knowledge.
  • Be IT literate (training will be given on the transport systems used).
  • Proficient in Microsoft office or Google Suite.
  • Have a good use of problem solving skills for a busy and productive office.
  • Ability to work on your own and under pressure.
  • Well organised with excellent time management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements (desirable).
  • Proven experience of team development.
  • Track record of building strong customer relationships.
  • Experience of team leadership.
  • Must be able to work some weekends.
  • Must be able to work on call (rota based)
Responsibilities

WHAT WILL I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are routed in the most efficient and cost effective manner to meet both our customers exacting requirements and performance KPI’s. The Lead Planner will have a strong commercial understanding of transport operations as well as the ability to develop strong working relationships with all stakeholders.

DAILY TASKS WILL INVOLVE:

  • Plan delivery routes using planning software, maintaining shift, duty and vehicle calendars in the required systems.
  • Maintain and update all key planning parameters, e.g. drive times, unload rates, drop difficulty, vehicle set up etc.
  • Liaise with the driving force to ensure accuracy of actual vs planned routes.
  • Use systems to plan “dynamic routing” for DCI customers and seek to maximise truck/driver utilisation and 2nd/3rd run opportunities. Maximising utilisation of model dossiers to ensure accuracy of jobs completed and rates for invoicing customers.
  • Input Quality or Safety related incidents in QUEST to be investigated by internal stakeholders/customers/suppliers.
  • Assure planning is performed to maximise the use of contracted hours and within WTD at all times.
  • Answer questions from the other internal/external teams and support in resolving issues where required.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver certifications, licenses and training.
  • Deliver on KPI’s regarding planning/actual performance.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of compliance audits and reports.
  • Undertake administration tasks in line with transport operations when required.
  • Work closely with General Manager to ensure performance KPI’s are met for all transport activity.
