Description

1. CORE TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Mechanical Design Expertise: Strong background in mechanical design, particularly in hydraulic turbines or related rotating machinery (pumps, turbines, compressors).
  • Engineering Calculations: Ability to perform structural, mechanical, and hydraulic calculations for turbine components.
  • CAD & Drafting Supervision: Experience in guiding draftsmen and validating technical drawings.
  • Hydraulic Turbine Knowledge: Understanding of hydroelectric turbine systems (Francis, Kaplan, Pelton, etc.) and their components (runner, stay vanes, wicket gates, etc.).
  • Performance Testing: Familiarity with turbine performance testing (efficiency, cavitation, vibration analysis).
  • Design Reviews: Experience leading design reviews and implementing corrective actions.
  • Failure Analysis & NCR Treatment: Knowledge of Non-Conformance Report (NCR) resolution and root cause analysis.

2. PROJECT & PROCESS SKILLS

  • Project Coordination: Ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring technical compliance with schedules.
  • Risk Assessment: Analyze technical risks and opportunities from project work packages.
  • Supply Chain Collaboration: Optimize designs for cost-effective manufacturing and installation.
  • Technical Documentation: Proficiency in writing engineering reports, test procedures, O&M manuals, and calculation notes.

3. LEADERSHIP & SOFT SKILLS

  • Technical Leadership: Ability to guide teams, influence stakeholders, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Communication: Strong oral and written English skills (French is a plus but not mandatory).
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset to troubleshoot design and operational challenges.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Work with hydraulics, supply chain, manufacturing, and site teams.

4. EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Canada (OIQ, PEO, or other provincial bodies).

5. PRACTICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design (preferably in hydropower, turbomachinery, or energy sectors).
